Kumana National Park is well known as a Bird Sanctuary in Sri Lanka. It is located in Hambanthota in the Eastern side of Yala National Park. It was declared in 1938 and where is one of the most important birds breed and roost. Tens of thousands birds migrate to Kumana marsh area during April and July annually.
Regular sightings include Pelicans, Spoonbills, White Ibis, Herons, and Painted Storks etc… We can be seen the very rare Black Necked Stork at the swamp. In addition to the birds Kumana is also home to Leopards and Elephants also.
Other than the watching Birds and Animals, you can have an experience in Safari Camps which is located near the waterside of the Kumbukkan River. Kumbukkan River gets its name because in the area there are huge numbers of Kumbuk trees. You can access only by the 4WD vehicles to the Camp Site Area.
