PIDURANGALA - SRI LANKA

Pidurangala archaeological site in Sri Lanka is very close to Sigiriya Rock Fortress and not very popular place visited. Pidurangala moves beyond the 1 and 2 century BC and used as a Monastry from at that time to date. But during the King Kasyapa’s time it became prominent.

In Pidurangala, there are numerous of archaeologically important places. Such as Ruins of Dagaba, Cave of the Recumbent Buddha Statue, Ancient Dagaba, Budu Madura etc….

If you are visiting Pidurangala you can climb the mountain to see the Pidurangala Rock also. The main path towards to the right hand side of the cave temple leads towards the top of the Pidurangala Rock. Sometimes there are clear steps on your way but sometimes not. But it is not difficult to climb the mountain. In the middle of your tour to the Pidurangala Rock you will reach to a complex of caves. In the main cave you can see a reclining Buddha statue around 48 feet. This Statue made by bricks and plastered with clay.

Once you climbed to the top of the Pidurangala Rock, you get a nice image of Sigiriya Rock with nice wind.
