ARANKELE - ONE OF SRI LANKA ARCHAEOLOGICAL PLACE

Arankele is listed as one of the leading forest hermitages in Sri Lanka. This forest is located in Ganewatte of Kurunegala District. In present about 18 Bhikkus (Buddhist Monks) are practicing meditation methods in the Arankele. The hermitage was built around 8th century. The one of the Specialist of Ayurveda medicine The King Buddhadasa has plant medicinal and herbal plants around the hermitage.  

In present Arankele Forest Monastry is protected by Department of Archaeology. And there are lot of ruins that can be seen in this place. There is a double platform buildings called padhanaghara pirivenas of the pansukulika as a principal feature. And in the hermitage has the longest Platform shaped by retaining walls of huge stones.
