SELLA-KATARAGAMA SRI LANKA

Sella-Katharagama is dedicated to God Ganesh who is the elder brother of God Katharagama.  And who’s knowledgeable of everything in the world.  Sella-Katharagama is 5Km away from the Katharagama Town situated Monaragala District of Uva Province in Sri Lanka.


When, Valli Matha, a daughter of a Chief of Vedda refused to marry God Katharagama, the God Ganesh appeared as an elephant and frightening Valli Matha and God Katharagama is rescuing her. And then Valli Matha is agreed to marry God Katharagama because he rescued her from the elephant. Sella-Katharagama Dewalaya was established by the side of Manik River where the said incident happened. Lot of pilgrims break coconuts to accomplish their wishes and offering Pooja Watti (A large Dish with fruits) to God Ganesh.

KATHARAGAMA SRI LANKA

Katharagama is belongs to the “God Katharagama” and situated Monaragala District of Uva Province in Sri Lanka. It attracts huge number of Local tourist as well as Foreign tourists throughout the year, especially in Long Holidays and School Vacations in Sri Lanka. 

According to the legendary, “King Dutugamunu” requested for help from God Katharagama to the victory from the war which had with the King Elara. After the King Dutugamunu wins he offered the Katharagama Dewalaya premises to the God Katharagama as God Katharagama’s request which I mentioned in my previous report of “Wedihiti Kanda”.   


The Annual Festival of Katharagama Dewala (Katharagama Perahera) is held in August every year and its ends up with Gini Pagima (Fire walking ceremony).  In Sri Lanka all the pilgrims who are visiting the Katharagama Dewalaya are taking a Pooja Watti (A large Dish with fruits) to offer to God Katharagama. And we can make the God Katharagama happy by dancing the Kavadi Dance which lot of Pilgrims who dance in front of the Katharagama Dewala.

WEDIHITI KANDA (WADASITI KANDA) SRI LANKA

“Wadasiti Kanda” is commonly known as “Wedihiti Kanda” is situated in Katharagama, Southern Province in Sri Lanka. According to the legendary Wadasiti Kanda got its name because of the God Katharagama was lived in that mountain with his wife Goddess Valli.  

One day the God Katharagama said to his followers that he will bow an arrow and said to construct a “Dewalaya” in the place which the arrow dropped.  That is how the “Katharagama Dewalaya” built in the present place.  The means of “Dewalaya” is temple dedicated to a deity.

You can reach to the peak of the mountain within around 2 hours and you can small Dewala and a Stupa. The Legendary also said that the Veddhas were appointed to the services of Dewala.

HORTON PLAINS SRI LANKA

Horton Plains National Park in Sri Lanka is one of the World’s greatest Nature Reserves. Horton Plains situated in Nuwara Eliya District of Central Province in Sri Lanka. This is approximately 10,000 hectares and is a home to wide variations of Flora and 24 species of Mammal such as Elks, Giant Squirrels, Deer, Wild Boar, Wild Hare, Leopards and Porcupine and 87 species of Birds including the migrating birds.



And also the Horton Plains also gives us the beautiful “Baker’s Falls”, the famous World’s End and Chimmini Pool. And a grass called Chrysostom covers the plains, while marshy areas are home to copious marsh moss (sphagnum). The umbrella-shaped, white-blossomed keena (Chlorophyll ) stand as the main canopy over montane forest areas. The stunted trees and shrubs are draped in lichen and mosses. Another distinguished species is Rhododendron zeylanicum , which has blood-red blossoms. The poignant purple-leafed Strobilanthes blossoms once after five years, and then dies.

NAGADEEPA TEMPLE (NAGADIPA) SRI LANKA

Nagadeepa (Nagadipa) is one of the ancient places in Sri Lanka situate at Jaffna District in Northern Province. There is 404Km distance in between Jaffna and Colombo. The access to Nagadeepa is from the village of Kurikattuwan (Kurikadduwan) of the island of Punkudutivu: by a boat ride of 20 minutes.

According to the Mahawansa, in the 6th Century BC during the second visit of Lord Buddha the two Naga Kings of Nagadeepa were arrayed in battle for a Gem Set Throne. The ancient Nagadeepa Temple is surrounding with the Image House and the Stupa, which the Gem Set Throne was protected. Later the ancient Stupa had been destroyed and the Buddhist Temple which we visit present is a modern one.


The modern Nagadeepa Stupa is painted in Silver in an attempt to protect its limestone structure from the harsh Sea – Wind.

KUMANA NATIONAL PARK SRI LANKA

Kumana National Park is well known as a Bird Sanctuary in Sri Lanka. It is located in Hambanthota in the Eastern side of Yala National Park. It was declared in 1938 and where is one of the most important birds breed and roost. Tens of thousands birds migrate to Kumana marsh area during April and July annually.   
Regular sightings include Pelicans, Spoonbills, White Ibis, Herons, and Painted Storks etc… We can be seen the very rare Black Necked Stork at the swamp. In addition to the birds Kumana is also home to Leopards and Elephants also.  
Other than the watching Birds and Animals, you can have an experience in Safari Camps which is located near the waterside of the Kumbukkan River. Kumbukkan River gets its name because in the area there are huge numbers of Kumbuk trees. You can access only by the 4WD vehicles to the Camp Site Area.
